Again what a wonderful couple and venue, although it rained at the beginning of the ceremony we managed to dodge the spots and get some great images.

What a lovely Day with a great couple
Shereen and Ashley got married a Shuttle Hall yesterday we had a relaxing shoot and gave the couple plenty of time with friends and family, which is what the celebration of a wedding day is about, (not a photo shoot as many photographers treat it).
We got some great shots. I suppose after 23 years if I can't do it now I should give up.

The photographs are on the internet and ready for collection. 7.51am Sunday Morning How do I do it! "we live in a world where you can get anything the next day" (and I am too busy to leave it) well its easy really if the images are taken correctly there is nothing to do just add special effects in Photoshop, if the couple don't like the effects they can be ordered without.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of covering a wedding at Hardwick Hall near Teversal a fantastic venue inside it was the darkest you could ever get shooting at 10,000 iso at 3.5-5.6 hand held. The dark was also due to the black sky a thunderstorm came just I had taken the last shots luckily.

The wedding was between Mark and Ip a fantastic couple with guests from around the world.

I have now finished the photographs and put them on the net (550 too many really) just waiting for the couple to see them and I will put some on my post tomorrow, a few good award winners.

What makes a good wedding photographer

Did you know that most photographer specialise in one subject, the subject they specialise they are usually best at! You should always use a qualified photographer but if you are getting married they should be qualified in wedding photography (which is the hardest).
I am qualified in wedding photography with the QEP. BIPP. SWPP. and the MPA (although I am no longer a member of the MPA)
In the passed I have won awards for every category in photography in fact I have won United Kingdom
Commercial, Under 5's, Pet and Wedding photographer of the year, which means I am a pretty good all- rounder. I have also won BIPP Gold Awards in Landscape and Pets.

What does all this mean to you the customer? well at the end of the day I can take a great photo of just about anything, no matter the weather conditions or light conditions, so you have nothing to worry about from that score.
If you don't like what I do, then I can't help all the qualifications and awards mean nothing!

My advise is use a qualified photographer (by an association not college or university)

Look at a few albums taken at all times of the year (or slide shows)

All photographs are timed, check the timing on a wedding (make sure he doesn't take you away for hours leaving your guests to themselves) (that's unless of course you want that and all photographers are willing to do that)

Make sure your proofs are ready within a reasonable time after the wedding (ours are ready the Monday or Tuesday after the wedding day) usually about a week after you get back from honeymoon is OK.

The photographer must carry professional indemnity insurance.

The trade and insurance companies are inundated with unsatisfactory photographs from wedding photographer or your best mate (who is great with a camera) who isn't your best mate anymore, choose wisely after all anyone can take a photograph.

Can they take 300 photos in focus on a wedding with altering light and weather conditions, the brides late, the groom lost the rings, bride forgot her bouquet, snowing vicar forgot the wedding, car broke down, aunt fell ill in the church, groom drunk, dropped the cake, bridesmaids lost and late who is going to dress the Bride? Sorry I didn't want to upset you but over 22 years all these things have happened, some more than once. A true professional photographer knows how to handle all these things no problem we will make your day go as smooth as silk even if you do have an odd hick-up (and the bride who had no one to dress her, well I did it, in fact I have now done it three times, (my wife says "that proves you are too old if they trust you to do that")

I wish everyone all the best and remember I have done well over one thousand weddings and problems come very occasionally, most people use professional people who all know what they are doing.

Wow what a day I arrived early due to the weather snow and freezing conditions wedding was at 2.30, I always get to the venue or brides house early to keep things calm an on time. The weather and road conditions were not good when I get to the hall turned in from the road to a slight incline I see a landrover coming broadside towards me, not a good sign!
Its a long drive at Whirlowbook didn't fancy leavings £10,000 of equipment in the car all day, and trying to walk up the path was not good with cameras, any way someone in a me Rangrover took me a up. To my surprise my daughter who owns a 4x4 was already there setting the seat covers up (www.seatsandsashes.com). True professionals snow, ice, rain, blizzards nothing keeps us away.
They managed to clear the drive later although the registra had to walk up and a few others, I fetched my car when my daughter left so I had my equipment at hand.

Tracy and James wedding all went to plan we managed about 50 shots outside but it was cold!

Just had some news from the SWPP on the September Awards
I won 6 Awards last month 5 Bronze and 1 Silver, the silver will be rejudged to see if it will make a Gold.

Gold awards take me through to the final at the beginning of next year, I have just won 2 Gold this year up to yet and 2 Silver the rest are Bronze.

The Car Never Arrived

Lucy and Mark got married on the 7th July, great weather for the happy couple , nothing could go wrong. Bridesmaids and Mum arrived at church 1.45pm that was fine that would make the bride about on time! The Vicar was champing at the bit as usual saying "I have another wedding at another church she can't be late" why they book so close I will never know!

Lucy arrived in her fathers car with dad driving 20 minutes late, the wedding car got lost (thats a new one, I thought I had heard everything) poor Lucy was really upset but I managed to calm her down, and we got her smiling again.

The rest of the day was fantastic the car eventually arrived at the church to take the bride and groom to the reception at Alfreton Hall.

A message on my answer phone the next day said "we are blown away with the photographs" many thanks Paul "

Me and Ste just want to say that we are so pleased with our photo's. This to us was the most important part of the wedding that we wanted to get right, as they hold all the memories once the day is over.
The Sunday after the wedding we flew to the Maldives for our honeymoon. At the airport on Sunday afternoon I received a text from Paul saying photo's ready for viewing on line!!! The following day we sat by the bar with a beer and looked at all our photo's on Ste's iPod!! WOW They are amazing!!!

I have never been so happy and that feeling we got when we saw them will be something I will never forget. I love them so much and every photo tells a story!

It is something I will always advise people- choose your photographer wisely as you can never re-capture that day. I'm just so glad we did!!!!

Wedding at the Belfrey Nottingham

Weather was not on our side yesterday it was that horrible damp fine rain that makes ladies hair go straight as a yard of pump water, so the bride Joanne decided to have the photography inside.

I have had comments from photographers about there is now where to do photography at the Belfrey in Nottingham, but I think you will agree these images are great!

Just a little taster from today's wedding, usually done on the same day but I am out tonight for an Italian with some friends.

Helen & Darren's wedding will be ready for collection by Monday at 11.00.am it was held at Nottingham University at the Trent Building and we have got some images there to blow your mind!

All the photographs were done quick and easily with great co-operation from all the guests, family and friends 276 photographs proofed just got to add a little magic and job done!

I ended up at Ringwood Hall, Brimington, Chesterfield twice in one weekend. Its the busiest venue I know and they have it organised like a well oiled clock, doing about eight weddings on a weekend, and that takes a lot of skill to run as it does. Now booking for 2013!

Busiest Week of the year

This week is my busy week, well I am always busy I am writing this at 6.00am on Sunday!

After today I will have done 4 weddings in three days, all big ones with three great couples up to yet and I am sure today's will be just as much fun. Its very rare to be able to do two weddings in one day and its something I don't do or recommend too much pressure on me. I had to put another photographer in place just in case we had the Bride was late, vicar late, car break down.
All went according to plan and I got to Bolsover Castle with 30 minutes to spare it all went like clockwork and Ian my other photographer who was covering me went off on his holidays, both couples new what I was doing and were OK with it but I wouldn't do it again I was knacked!

I then did a wedding yesterday (Saturday) at Ringwood Hall and I am Back again today (Sunday) my Saturday Wedding is all done and on the internet, they are collecting it at 3.00pm tomorrow, so I will just have 3 weddings to sort crop and put on the net, print preview books!

So perhaps you don't think that's busy! well I have had 5 wedding enquiries this weekend, booked one on Saturday and seeing three others on Monday, plus all my post production wedding work, and wait for it we have a wedding fayre at Ringwood Hall on Tuesday.

I need a holiday!

Hi I have just put a wedding on the internet that I did last Saturday we were lucky with the weather and managed to dodge the rain. It was a late wedding at 5.00.pm, sit down for 7.00.pm with an hour service. All went according to plan although Jo the Bride dropped a list of 20 groups that she wanted, great fun, cool!

My wife Helene came with me which was a great help for Jo, her mum was having a few problems with the dress but Helene who used to come out on all my wedding knows all about hair, makeup and dresses.

We are thinking of bringing this back in on the weddings with a full package, if you are interested please mention it when you call about booking wedding photography with us.

I did a shoot on Monday for Newstead Abbey fantastic venue, just loaded a couple of shots hope you like them.

If you go and see quite a few of the new photographers they will tell you you need a ton of equipment, these are just flash on camera or no flash, and it is a very dark venue in places!

What a week its probably been the busiest week for enquiries and bookings this year. I don't really know the reason but my web site viewing, and telephone enquiries have been heart warming, with at least seven enquiries and 3 bookings this week. We also have a few to see next week, so we hope it will continue.

Most of the Weddings are for this year in September gone are the days of booking a long time in front, although we have bookings for 2011.

If you want to come and see us please book early, we have late nights Monday and Thursday each week. August can be a real problem with the amount of weddings we have, ten!

Wedding of Jane & Shaun Yesterday

I had never met Jane or Shaun until their wedding yesterday at the Lakeside in Nottingham. The wedding was booked over the phone from someone who had recommended me. Just a small wedding with about 15 guests. It was a lovely wedding although it was raining for most of the time, but we managed to get shots outside with a bit of use with the umbrella.

Well I broke my record for downloading colour correcting any images, and cropping 1 hour & 4 minutes. After that I put all the special effects on and loaded it to the internet. It was a 2.00 pm. wedding all done for 7.30 pm. last night, and that includes calling at the in-laws for an hour and having my evening meal.
